From the very 1st note, this powerful rendition of “Unchained Melody” could be your new favorite

Though there are thousands of popular songs produced each year, and plenty of tunes that seasonally get stuck in our heads, there’s something to be said for those which truly transport you to another time and place.

Usually such songs transcend generations, and as a result take a place in history by virtue of retaining ‘classic’ status. Unchained Melody is without a doubt in that category.

Plenty of artists have performed covers of it over the years, though very few can lay claim to being as good as this one …

First made popular by the Righteous Brothers in 1965, “Unchained Melody” has more than stood the test of time. It achieved new levels of fame in 1990 thanks to its part in the blockbuster movie Ghost, and since then hundreds have tried to put their own spin on it.

Few, however, can boast doing so in a manner that pushes their version out from the crowd. Elvis Presley’s rendition was one that many accepted as worthy of such recognition, and one or two others have impressed, but as one might expect, it takes some doing to make a version memorably unique.

Which is what makes Jonathan Jackson’s attempt so damn good. Invited to the Grand Ole Opry to perform, the actor left the audience stunned with his vocal capabilities.

An actor by trade – known for his recurring role in daytime soap “General Hospital” – fans might not have been aware that Jackson had such a talent hiding away. Well, they certainly do now.

From the very first note, Jackson charms his audience, and from there it just gets better and better. In fact, it’s rather difficult to understand how singing isn’t his primary career.

I don’t know about you, but that certainly left me impressed!
